Free Cross-Stitch Pattern Generator
Turn any photo into a printable cross-stitch chart with DMC or Anchor thread colors — no account required. Edit stitches, add backstitch outlines, place half stitches, and download a PDF, SVG, or OXS file in seconds.
How to Edit Your Pattern
- After generating, the canvas opens in Pan mode — drag to scroll around and use the scroll wheel to zoom in on detail.
- Click Edit in the top toolbar to switch on selection. Click cells one by one, drag a rectangle to grab a region, double-click to grab a connected color area, or hold Shift to add to your selection.
- With cells selected, click any thread color in the right palette to repaint them — or use the custom color picker for shades outside DMC and Anchor.
- Use the half-stitch buttons (/ and \) on the selection toolbar to convert selected cells into half stitches for shading and finer detail.
- Press Delete or Backspace to erase selected cells (leaving blank fabric). Click ↶ Undo in the top toolbar (or press Ctrl+Z / ⌘+Z) to step back — the last 10 edits are remembered.
- Click BS for backstitch mode, pick a thread color, then click and drag between cell corners to draw outlines and details.
- Click any swatch in the right palette to highlight only that color on the canvas. Use Skip to hide a color from the chart, and Restore to bring it back.
- When the pattern looks right, export PDF for printing, OXS for PatternKeeper / WinStitch / MacStitch, or SVG for vector editing.
- Drag one swatch onto another in the palette to merge them — every stitch of the source color becomes the target color. Useful for combining two near-identical shades or simplifying the palette before stitching.
How It Works
- Upload a PNG, JPG, BMP, or WebP image (up to 10 MB).
- Set the grid width in stitches, maximum color count, and Aida fabric count to preview the finished dimensions.
- Edit the pattern: paint or erase cells, draw backstitch lines, add half stitches, and switch between DMC and Anchor thread numbers.
- Download your PDF, SVG, or OXS pattern file — free, no watermark.
