What is mending?
Visible mending is the practice of repairing torn or worn clothing in a way that intentionally shows the repair as a design feature. Sashiko (刺し子) is a centuries-old Japanese technique using simple running stitches in geometric grid patterns to reinforce and decorate fabric. It's especially well-suited for denim, canvas, linen, and cotton.
The patterns generated here are pure hand-stitch charts — no embroidery machine required. Print at 100% scale, transfer the dots and lines to your fabric, then stitch with sashiko thread or 6-strand cotton floss.
